Miss Northern States Local Preliminary and Practice Pageant: The Miss Northern States Local Pageant is a preliminary and practice opportunity. All systems are welcome. This event is open to the United States and Canada for girls and women of all ages. You will receive valuable feedback from a professional panel of judges. This is the final local preliminary event leading up to the Miss Northern States Regional Finals on August 16-17, 2024, in Perrysburg, Ohio which will crown the 2024-2025 MNS Queens Court. If you are looking for a scholarship system, based on a foundation of learning, service, and kindness then MNS is the system for you. There is no exclusive commitment at MNS, so you can take advantage of other pageant opportunities. The age division is determined by the age of the contestant on the date of the pageant June 8, 2024.

Jr. Division: Baby Princess, Tiny Princess, Jr. Princess, and Princess

Sr. Division: Preteen, Jr. Teen, Teen, Miss, Mrs., and Ms. 

​

Please note if you won the overall division title at the Miss Northern States Local Preliminary Pageant on March 2, 2024, and are still looking for practice opportunities before national pageant events this summer, you may participate in this event for a MNS Ambassador title and all optional events. You will not be competing for a division title.

MNS Training Workshop Opportunity

In the morning prior to the Miss Northern States Local Pageant, there will be a MNS Training Workshop with coaches, Christine Harmeyer and Emma Lewis. This workshop is for Jr. Princess, Princess, Preteen, Jr. Teen, Teen, Miss, Mrs., and Ms. Divisions only. The Workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  The training workshop will be capped at a maximum capacity of 20 girls/women, so once the workshop is full this opportunity will close. You will receive a 30-minute walking class, have an opportunity to perform one walking routing and receive feedback (you pick the routine - Fun Fashion (Top Model/Runway), Evening Gown, Casual Wear, or Fitness, and complete a 2-minute mock interview with feedback.

3) MNS Training Workshop Only $50 (workshop is capped at 20)

Local Pageant Required Competition Events

​

1. On Stage Introduction & Stage Presence - You will state your name and the city and state where you reside. The introduction may be up to approximately 15 seconds long. The judges will be looking for a clear introduction, confidence when speaking, and if you are engaging with both the judges and audience. The emcee will be mid-stage with a microphone and once the introduction is done you will step forward in front of the judges, pose and model, and then exit the stage. This is a dressy outfit of choice for this event. This can be a dress, jumpsuit, or any stylish outfit that you love. For the Baby and Tiny Princess Divisions, the emcee will read the introduction. The judges are looking for stage presence and personality for the Baby and Tiny Princess Divisions. Baby and Tiny Princess contestants will need to provide an index card with the introduction at registration. 

​

2. Casual Wear - Showcase your everyday style in your favorite casual wear outfit! Please make the walking routine what you want and allow for at least one stopping point for the judges. Make the routine fun, upbeat, and bring on the smile. 

​

3. Evening Gown: Wear a floor length gown of choice for this elegant and graceful event. Please make the walking routine what you want and allow for at least one stopping point for the judges. The Baby and Tiny Princess Divisions may wear a knee length or cupcake style dress.

​

4. Community Service: Make a donation for a local animal shelter. More information will be posted about the organization the donation will be provided to and the specific items needed. Please make your donation at registration. 

​

Registration fees for the Optional Events are $30 each plus applicable local tax. Optional events will be registered for separately and an invoice will be emailed. A. Most Photogenic: The photogenic competition can win you the Most Photogenic event. Your most photogenic photo must be a headshot and will be an 8X10 print submission at registration. The judges are looking for personality, fashion sense, confidence, beauty, lighting, creativity, and composition. The five contestants with the highest score will be recognized with an award. The overall winner will receive the Miss Northern States Most Photogenic sash, local crown, and cash bouquet scholarship. Additional headshot photos may be entered with an additional optional entry fee of $10 per photo at registration on the day of the pageant. 

​

B. Modeling Portfolio: Are you ready to show us your modeling portfolio? Miss Northern States is looking for a professional modeling portfolio. This can include various professional size photos and should include a minimum of five or more photos. The judges will evaluate the modeling portfolio submission to determine the overall winners. The portfolio is a printed submission at registration and the photos need to be in a portfolio. The five contestants with the highest score will be recognized with an award. The overall winner will receive the Miss Northern States Best Portfolio plaque, crown, and cash bouquet scholarship. 

​

C: Top Model (Fun Fashion/Runway): This is an on-stage modeling event! Are you ready to showcase a high fashion outfit in this fun and upbeat event? You are allowed to make two stops on the stage at your discretion. The five contestants with the overall highest score will be recognized which includes one overall winner for the Jr. and Sr. Divisions. The overall Jr. and Sr. Division winners will be recognized with a plaque and cash bouquet scholarship. 

​

D. Fitness: Who is ready to rock the runway in the fitness competition? Please wear a fun and colorful fitness outfit of choice with tennis shoes. Make this walking routine fun and upbeat! You are allowed to make two stops on the stage at your discretion. The five contestants with the overall highest score will be recognized which includes one overall winner for the Jr. and Sr. Divisions. The overall Jr. and Sr. Division winners will be recognized with a plaque and cash bouquet scholarship. 

​

Miss Northern States Local Pageant Crowning

The top three girls in each age division will be recognized on stage with a special award. The girl that receives the top score in each division will be crowned as the new MNS Heart of the Northwest Local Queen. The Local Queen crowned in each age division will receive the local crown, local sash, plaque, and an award of $200 off the registration fee for the MNS Regional States Final event on August 16-17, 2024. 

 

There will be special judge side awards. The contestants that do not place in the top three will be recognized on stage and will receive a crown and participation award.

This is a local pageant event, so there is no commitment with crowning. Miss Northern States would love to have you represent your local title and move forward to compete at the Miss Northern States Regional Finals August 16-17, 2024, in Perrysburg, Ohio.

Kindness Matters

The kindness first always philosophy of Miss Northern States matters. The Miss Northern States team will be looking for the contestant that shares kindness and support to others throughout this event. There will be a special award presentation for this contestant. 

​

Kindness Standards

Miss Northern States motto is kindness first always! MNS is a sisterhood that supports each other. Contestants and their families are held to a high standard of morals and ethics. It is expected that all contestants, parents, and guests conduct themselves with kindness first. Disrespectful behavior, negative comments, or bullying will not be tolerated and is grounds for immediate dismissal or removal from the pageant venue. If you have a situation, it is important to inform the Owner and Director of Miss Northern States or a MNS team member. At Miss Northern States, we want to see every girl and young woman empowering and supporting each other! Let's cheer each other on and be there for each other when a friend is needed.

Miss Northern States Eligibility Rules

The date of the Miss Northern States Local Pageant determines the competing age for each contestant. You must be a citizen of the United States or Canada, a natural born female, and have an exceptional and upstanding character. A kindness first always attitude is important. Additional qualifying factors for age divisions:

Miss Division Ages 20-27 (never married)

Mrs. Division Ages 21+ (married)

Ms. Division Ages 25+ (an unmarried woman that uses this title)

Judges and Scoring Process

The professional panel of judges change for each local pageant event. Each judge scores separately and the tabulation is processed by the Judges Chairman to determine the overall winner for each age division. In the event, a judge would every personally know a contestant, they will waive their right for judging and an average of the other judges will stand for scoring. The MNS Owner and Director ensures this process has high ethical standards to ensure there is a consistent, fair, and equitable judging process. The judges' comments will be emailed within 7-10 days following the event.

Hair and Makeup Rules

Miss Northern States Pageant is a natural scholarship pageant system opportunity. We encourage all girls to show their natural beauty. It is at your discretion how you choose to style your hair and makeup. It is encouraged for the Junior Division contestants to not use heavy makeup. Light makeup and hair extensions in the younger divisions are allowed.

Dressing Room

One wristband will be given to each contestant to be used by one female chaperone in the dressing room. There are absolutely no males allowed in the dressing room. No photos or videos are allowed in the dressing room. Curling irons, flat irons, or any hot hair tools are only permitted in the restroom areas. Steamers are allowed in the dressing room.

Event Admission

Admission for the MNS Local Pageant can be purchased at the door the day of the event for $20 each. Children age 6 and under are free admission. If you are visiting royalty from any system and are wearing your sash the admission is only $10.  

​

People's Choice

There will be a People's Choice vote which will include the Miss Northern States Local contestants. The contestant with the overall highest votes will receive a trophy, cash scholarship, local crown, and People's Choice sash.
